Everything you need to know about porcelain veneers in Tirana
Porcelain veneers, also called laminate veneers, are thin layers of porcelain bonded to the front surface of your teeth. They are between 0.3 and 1 mm thick, and their purpose is purely aesthetic: to improve the color and shape of your teeth.
If your natural teeth aren’t as white as you’d like, veneers can give you the shade you want. If your teeth have lost their shine or are worn, veneers can reshape them to look their best. If you only want whiter teeth and are happy with their shape, teeth whitening may be enough.
Warning: if it's thicker than 1 mm, it isn't a veneer
E.max veneers should be no more than 0.9 mm thick. Because veneers are an aesthetic treatment, the result must look naturally white, with the color and translucency of real teeth, not a flat “dead white” without any natural pigment.
Many patients believe they have veneers when they actually have dental crowns, which require far more of the tooth to be removed. Be informed and ask the right questions before treatment: once enamel has been removed, there is no going back.
Pros and cons of porcelain veneers
Pros
Very little enamel is removed during preparation, much less than for a crown, and with no-prep veneers sometimes none at all. The result looks natural, and porcelain keeps its color.
Cons
Not everyone is a candidate: it depends on your bite and the position of your teeth, and sometimes teeth need straightening with orthodontics first. Veneers are delicate, so avoid biting hard foods and cut some foods with a knife. Very dark teeth are harder to cover. Veneers are more difficult to make than crowns, so E.max veneers cost more.
E.max CAD or E.max Press veneers?
E.max is a brand name: the material itself is lithium disilicate, made by Ivoclar, one of the world’s largest dental manufacturers. There are two ways to make E.max veneers.
E.max CAD
A block of lithium disilicate is placed in a 3D milling machine and cut to shape. This method has a limit: it can’t make veneers thinner than 0.5 mm.
E.max Press
A more advanced technique that can make veneers as thin as 0.3 mm, with a smaller margin of error. It’s the preferred method, especially for patients who need little or no enamel removed.
Porcelain veneers vs composite bonding in Albania
Composite veneers are more economical because the material and treatment time are different. They cost around five times less than porcelain. But in our experience, most patients want to replace composite veneers with porcelain within about two years, because composite:
- changes color more over time
- breaks more easily than lithium disilicate, which is fired at around 800 °C
- needs a completely saliva-free working area, which can never be achieved 100%, so stains often appear at the neck of the tooth over time
How much do veneers cost in Tirana?
